But in this game, her batting topped the charts, and that was a frightening prospect indeed. Ordinarily, Vicki can’t hit the ball more than about 15 feet and is a complete non-threat on AI offense. On the Dodgers’ side, nobody was having a bad day, and Vicki Kawaguchi was having a tremendous day! She had her running boosted to 10+ levels, and her batting was majorly juiced up as well. If Ernie and Veronica’s bad days were bad news, this was even worse news.
I ended up making several changes to my batting order before continuing on. This definitely dulled the abilities of two of my players on offense, and would make for an uphill battle. Veronica was thankfully doing fine at running and fielding, but she had a nasty few balls off of her batting stat, so she wouldn’t be hitting the ball much of anywhere this game. Despite playing in his backyard, Ernie was feeling down, and his batting boost was less than normal so that I didn’t know if he’d be able to hit the ball well enough to hit it out – and that was almost necessary for him to get on base, since his running was all the way down to a slow slow 4! To put the cherry on top, his fielding was also somewhat worse than normal, opening up an increased possibility of errors at first base. Unfortunately, right off the bat I was hit with a setback as two of my kids were having bad days. Up to this point, they’d gone 2-1, with their best performance being an 18-run differential game. I’d need to put up good performances to do so, however, and that was far from guaranteed. From his performances in the first three games, I judged him as a good player capable of putting up really high numbers, but also one who scored low enough often enough that I could theoretically beat him. For the first week, I would be playing both of the teams coached by AreYouTyler. With the fourth week of competition, the league was moving out of divisional play, and I would now start an eight-game series where each team would play the other teams in their league, but outside of the division. Week 3 was a rough one for me, especially the second game where I lost to the AI for the first time in this league.
